Two Types of Car Seats

Custom seat covers can be installed in the front seats (bucket seats) or the rear seat (bench seat). A bucket seat is built to hold one person as opposed to bench seats that are designed for seating multiple people. In most vehicles, there are two bucket seats in the front compartment and a bench seat in the back. The gear shifter and parking brake lever are located between the two front bucket seats. This area may also feature small storage compartments and cup holders.

For many years, the front compartment of American vehicles featured bench seats. It wasn’t until the 1960s that the bucket seat gained popularity. This was due to an increase production of compact vehicles and sporty cars like Ford Mustang. The preferred seating arrangement for trucks and vans were bench seats in the front to accommodate up to three people. In the 1990s, however, trucks began to offer bucket seats in the front for those who preferred a sportier looking vehicle. Minivans often feature a bucket seat in the back compartment as well. Many professional racing vehicles feature only one bucket seat.

Consumers installing car seat covers should purchase matching bucket seat covers and bench seat covers for an attractive-looking interior.

Custom seat covers vs. Universal seat covers

One important question to consider when purchasing car seat covers is whether to buy custom seat covers or universal ones. There are benefits and drawbacks to each one. Below is a list of pros and cons of choosing a custom seat cover or a universal one.

Custom seat covers

Pros
- Custom tailored to fit your car seats perfectly so there is no loose fabric hanging
- Larger selection of colors, styles, fabrics, and patterns to choose from than going into a retail store and buying a generic seat cover
- Online retailers will allow you to customize your seat covers with just a click of a button
- Tend to be made from higher quality material than generic seat covers. For example, custom seat covers are typically made with top-quality material such as neoprene, vinyl, or velour. Neoprene seat covers are made from a rubber-like material that is much more durable than other fabrics which allows it to maintain its superb quality over time. Most manufactures use a high-tech manufacturing process to create these custom seat covers

Cons
- Shipping costs if you buy the custom seat covers online
- Have to wait for the seat covers to arrive in the mail
- Tend to be more expensive than universal seat covers

Universal seat covers

Pros
- Able to buy and have your seat covers today
- Generally cheaper than custom seat covers

Cons
- Seat covers will not be a perfect fit for your vehicle
- Quality of material used may not be as good as custom seat covers

Purchasing universal seat covers may be convenient and cheaper but their quality suffers in comparison to custom seat covers. Online retailers, such as Custom Seat Covers, carries a large selection of seat covers at affordable prices so that consumers can enjoy the luxury of owning custom seat covers.

Types of Custom Seat Covers

Custom seat covers give an ideal, seamless appearance and fit for your car seats. A major decision in choosing a car seat is the type of fabric you want. Each type of fabric has their advantages and disadvantages. Below is a list of some of the most common fabrics for custom seat covers:

Neoprene – Many off-road enthusiasts prefer neoprene fabric because of their extreme durability and protection against almost anything – stains, liquids, mildew, UV rays and much more. While neoprene seat covers may be a little more expensive than your traditional fabric, they are built to last and can save you money in the long run.

Leather – Most people want the luxurious feel of having leather car seat covers. One big advantage of these is that they don’t absorb liquids so cleaning them is a hassle-free task. However, you should take into consideration that leather seats can become hot and sticky during the summer months and don’t last as long as some other fabrics.

Suede – Suede is a good alternative to leather and costs much less. It tends to be tougher than leather so you get more bang for your buck. Much like leather though, it is not resistant to UV damage so if you are going to buy suede seat covers, choose one that is treated with weather resistant materials.

Velour - Velour car seat covers are soft, smooth and usually have a thick layer of foam to provide extra cushion and comfort. They provide a luxurious look for the interior of your vehicle, while protecting to your factory seats.

Whether you choose neoprene, leather, suede or velour seat covers, make sure to get them custom fitted for your vehicle. Custom seat covers will ultimately give you endless protection with perfect fit for your seats.

All About Car Seats

Quite simply, a car seat is a chair inside of automobiles. They are usually constructed from inexpensive material that is durable enough to withstand the normal wear and tear that is expected with use. Many people choose to use custom seat covers for this reason since it prolongs the life of a car seat substantially. In addition to the one- person seat, vehicles usually have bench seats in the back to accommodate up to 3 people. Custom seat covers can also be purchased for bench seats as well.

Nowadays, some automobiles have power seats that allow drivers to adjust their seats through electric controls. Several vehicles feature memory seats that can recall preferred seat adjustments through a touch of a button. This makes it easy for drivers to set and store their desirable comfort settings in situations where more than one person is using the vehicle.

A concern for many parents about car seats is safety for their child. Child restraint systems are usually required by law for children under a certain age or height. These restraint systems are attached to a car seat and feature harnesses or seat belts to keep a child secured in case of an accident. Car seats are an extremely important component in any vehicle and a vehicle owner should take considerable measures to protect them from damage.
